Sometimes, the first step toward understanding ourselves comes from the most unexpected places.
The First Time I Felt Understood
When I was a teenager, I loved buying Capricho magazine, especially to read the horoscope and the descriptions of Capricorn personalities.
I never believed every prediction—especially those that claimed to know what the future held—but I was always fascinated by the personality traits.
More often than not, they reflected the way I already saw myself.
At a stage of life filled with questions, emotions, insecurities, and constant change, those descriptions became one of the few things that helped me make sense of who I was.
Looking back now, I realize that it wasn't astrology itself that captivated me.
It was the opportunity to reflect.
To ask myself why I reacted the way I did.
Why certain situations affected me more than others.
And, perhaps for the first time, to become curious about understanding myself.
Learning Who I Was
During those years, very little seemed to make sense.
I questioned the system.
I questioned expectations.
I questioned the idea that I should become the person everyone else expected me to be.
There were so many "no's" around me—and so many that I heard—that, without realizing it, they slowly turned into doubts, introversion, resistance, and fears that delayed my emotional growth for years.
Looking back, it almost sounds strange.
But at the time, it felt completely normal.
Growing Beyond Labels
As I entered adulthood, something changed.
Instead of focusing only on the characteristics that made me proud of being a Capricorn, I started paying attention to the ones that challenged me.
And I quickly realized something:
Recognizing our flaws is much harder than recognizing our strengths.
Our minds naturally try to convince us that,
"This is just the way I am."
And that's exactly where growth becomes difficult.
Because believing we can't change often becomes the greatest obstacle to changing.
Self-Knowledge Is a Daily Practice
Without even realizing it, I began working on self-awareness little by little.
Every conversation.
Every mistake.
Every disappointment.
Every challenge became an opportunity to understand myself a little better.
I still don't believe I'll ever become a perfect person.
In fact, I don't think that's the goal.
For me, personal growth has never been about perfection.
It's about becoming a slightly better version of myself than I was yesterday.
If I can improve just a little each day, I'll already feel fulfilled.
Because only I know how difficult that inner journey has been.
More Than Capricorn
Today, I still recognize many characteristics that are often associated with Capricorn.
Patience.
Discipline.
Persistence.
Organization.
A realistic way of seeing life.
Some of these qualities have helped me immensely.
Others continue to challenge me.
And that's perfectly fine.
I no longer see personality traits as labels that define who we are.
I see them as starting points.
They help us understand ourselves—but they should never limit who we can become.
Perhaps that's the greatest lesson I've learned.
Whether those first reflections came from a magazine, a personality description, or simply from growing older doesn't really matter anymore.
What matters is that they encouraged me to begin a journey that continues to this day:
The lifelong journey of getting to know myself.
